About me
My passion for photography goes back to about 4th grade. This
is the around the time I was able to acquire enough allowance
to purchase disposable cameras and when I first received
a camera of my own. I was the kid who was always taking
pictures of my friends at school, field trips, or birthday
parties and creating photo albums because I wanted to
have something tangible in which to remember those memories.
I remember getting so excited when the day came to go pick
up my pictures from the store and arrange them in order
of events while reminiscing on the moments that took place.
As I got older, this hobby transformed into a need to improve my skill. I never considered myself to be artistic because I thought that meant you had to be able draw, paint, sing, or dance...none of which I could do well. Photography for me is where I found my artistic ability because I took notice of my surroundings and the special interactions with people that other people may have overlooked and I was able to capture them through pictures. Don't get me wrong, I believe that talent isn't innate and can be taught to anyone willing to learn. A person who has a drive can improve upon any skill with hard work and dedication. I was just drawn to photography in a way that I was not drawn to any other art form. I found a sense of peace and serenity when I had a camera in hand and I found myself taking pictures for hours on end with complete contentment.
What excites me most about photography is the ability to freeze time and give someone else an image that I created of a moment in their life that they will have to look back on and one in which they can cherish forever. A picture truly does speak a thousand words and as the famous Ansel Adams says, "A true photograph need not be explained, nor can it be contained in words."

My Experience |
I studied the art of Photography at Grossmont College where I learned and practiced the following: the history of photography through analog film using dark room processing, digital photography incorporating both studio lighting and computer editing capabilities, and building and refining a portfolio while engaging in interactive critiques. I later had the opportunity to intern for ABM photography, a well known San Diego Wedding Photography company, in order to gain wedding/portraiture experience and refine my craft. I have done some freelance wedding and portraiture photography since and am I excited to merge my two passions of photography and teaching children with my new position as the VAPA Digital Photography Teacher at both elementary schools Camarena and Hedenkamp!
